These two presentations were made by the former National PPRD South National Correspondent, Brg. Jawhar SAYEJ, at the second National Correspondents Meeting organised in Brussels on 22 October 2009.

In preparation to their first meeting the PPRD South asked all the National Correspondents to prepare a presentation on the main features of their respective national Civil Protection system with the objective to create an initial shared knowledge base among the PPRD South National Correspondents Network and the PPRD South team. Almost all the National Correspondents prepared such presentation including the main information on both the legislative and institutional framework, as well as on the organizational setting of the National Civil Protection Authority and the overall Civil Protection system in their respective countries.

WHO e-Atlas of disaster risk for the Eastern Mediterranean Region: Palestinian Hasard Maps

E-mail Print PDF

The World Health Organization Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean produced the WHO e-Atlas of disaster risk for the Eastern Mediterranean Region, Volume 1: Exposure to natural hazards. The e-Atlas uses geographic information systems and various disaster models to assist disaster management decision-makers to reduce health risks to vulnerable populations due to emergencies and health crises. This tool can be used to help predict the magnitude of a disaster on a specific population, to assess where damage might be the greatest and to forecast specific resources which may be required.

For Palestine, the e-Atlas contains a set of maps and supporting documents explaining methodology and providing metadata that illustrate the distribution of natural hazards (earthquakes, floods, heat, wind, and landslides), as well as estimates of the sizes of populations exposed to such hazards.
