The ENPI funded PPRD South Programme supports international cooperation for the reinforcement of Civil Protection capacities between the European Union, the Mediterranean and Balkan Partner Countries under the umbrella of the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP). PPRD South has disseminated and then published here the Recommendations drafted at the end of the Round Table on Women's Added value in Civil Protection organised with the support of Algerian Civil Protection in Algiers on 26 March 2012. The document includes the Round Table participants’ suggestions and expectations on how gender issues may be better mainstreamed in the overall disaster management cycle.
The event in Algiers was opened by Laura Baeza, Head of EU Delegation to Algeria and Col. Mustapha El Habiri, Director General of the Algerian Civil Protection, and received the attention of Mrs Kristalina Georgieva, European Commissioner of the EU Directorate General ECHO (International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid & Crisis Response) which praised the initiative in a video-message delivered to the attendants during the opening session.
